Description
This is an original pair of WWII U.S. M3 6x30 binoculars. These binoculars were produced in 1943 by Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and are marked "BINOCULAR, M3, 6X30" and "WESTINGHOUSE, 1943 H.M.R.", along with the serial number of "No. 166262". The "H.M.R." marking is believed to denote "High Moisture Resistance". In addition to their factory markings, their original owner etched into the surface a D-Day+1 inscription: "FRANCE" and "JUNE 7, 1944". Still attached are remnants of its original leather carrying strap.
Provenance
Private Collection, Springdale, Arkansas
