Description
This original WWII "Windproof" lighter was produced by Zippo Manufacturing Co. in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The case markings are just visible underneath the original black crackle finish. Zippo manufactured two main varieties of black crackle finish lighters during the war. This particular example is the earlier and far rarer variation. With a four-barrel hinge, 14-hole chimney, rounded bottom, and "PAT. 2032695" insert stamp, it dates to 1942.
Provenance
Private Collection, Los Angeles, California
Condition Report
The factory finish is in good condition and the hinge still opens and closes without issue; however, the cotton insert appears to have been replaced with a folded piece of paper. This lighter will require a flint and fluid to function.
