Description
This is an original WWII U.S. Army Air Force officer's service jacket manufactured on February 28, 1944, by the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot. It is constructed of the iconic "chocolate" gabardine wool material. Inscribed on the jacket's lining is the surname of its original owner, "Wexler". A search of the National Archives unfortunately reveals too many results to be conclusive. It is a size 38R but please refer to the Measurements section for more details.
Provenance
Personal Collection of Chelius Carter. Prior to Mr. Carter's possession, this jacket was owned by Lieutenant Kenneth Horner, O-720851, of the 385th Fighter Squadron, 364th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force. Lt. Horner informed Mr. Carter that this jacket once belonged to a fellow fighter pilot in the 8th Air Force.
Condition Report
This jacket is in fair, used condition. Unfortunately, its belt and nearly all buttons have been removed, making it an ideal candidate for restoration.
