Description
This is an original WWII U.S. Army Air Force wool service jacket manufactured on February 27, 1942, by Simon Ackerman Clothes, Inc. of New York, New York. It is labeled a size "40R" but please refer to the Measurements section for more details. It retains its original USAAF collar discs, USAAF shoulder sleeve insignia patch, set of matching staff sergeant's rank insignia patches, and honorable service ruptured duck patch. Interestingly, above the wearer's left chest pocket we can see evidence of a now-missing set of wings and ribbons. The jacket's lining is inscribed with the original owner's laundry number, "P-7058", and a since illegible surname, which appears to begin with "Plasc[...]". Unfortunately, a search of the National Archives did not reveal a match. Stapled to the jacket's lining is a cloth tag marked "6718, PP". One of the pockets bares a "P7058Y" material supplier's stamping.
