Description
This is an original WWII USMC camouflage M-1 helmet cover. The cover is devoid of foliage slits in both the crown and the tongues - a characteristic of the third variation of covers produced during the war. Third pattern helmet covers began appearing in wartime photographs on Iwo Jima and Okinawa in early 1945. It features the distinctive double-chain center stitching and zigzag border stitching on the beach side, and it is still in its wartime configuration, with no "Eagle, Globe & Anchor" stampings on either side of the cover. One of the tongues is stenciled "D-33" on both sides. It is displayed here on a swivel loop helmet set (not included) but would also be appropriate for fixed loop helmets.
