Description
This is an original WWII USMC M-1 helmet liner. A red square is painted at both the front and the rear, denoting use by the Shore Party, which was a specialized logistical and combat-engineering unit responsible for managing beachhead operations, coordinating ship-to-shore movement, and clearing obstacles under heavy enemy fire. This helmet liner was produced by Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It features blackened brass A-washers and a Paul K. Weil Co. OD#3 (khaki) suspension, approximately dating the liner's production from mid-1944 to 1945. The suspension comes complete with its original neckband and a recently installed original headband. Unfortunately, both pieces' manufacturers' markings have faded beyond legibility. In addition to its original painted markings, the liner's exterior retains an original olive drab field repaint.
