Description

This original WWII U.S. front seam fixed loop M-1 helmet shell showcases an original hand painted "9", attributed to the 9th Naval Construction Battalion ("Seabees"). Interestingly, a similar example used on D-Day by 6th Naval Construction Battalion Beachmaster Joe Vaghi is in the collection of the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois. This helmet was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan and exhibits a lot number of "619B", approximately dating its production from mid to late-1943. In addition to its original hand painted marking, it retains its original, albeit well worn, olive drab factory finish, cork texture, and OD#3 (khaki) chinstrap remnants.

Good

Excellent

This helmet shell is in fair condition, with wear consistent with that of a combat-used example. Unfortunately, its chinstraps are damaged, there are stress cracks throughout, and the top of the helmet looks to have unintentional rotary tool marks (seen in the third image).
