Description
This original WWII USN M-1 helmet set showcases an original battleship-blue repaint with the seaman's initials, "JEG", stenciled in white paint at the front. The front seam fixed loop helmet shell was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan. The lot number of "_48B" is faintly stamped; however, judging by the later style fixed loops, it likely dates from approximately mid-1942 to late-1943. In addition to the original repaint, the helmet retains its original cork texture and OD#3 (khaki) chinstraps with brass hardware and a raised bar buckle. Interestingly, the helmet shell's interior is coated in a layer of pebbly sand, potentially indicating use by amphibious forces. The helmet's liner was produced by Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It features parkerized steel A-washers and an OD#3 suspension, approximately dating the liner's production from late-1942 to mid-1943. The suspension has recently been completed with an original Hugo Bosca Company headband and neckband. Like the steel shell, the helmet liner is painted with the same battleship-blue repaint and "JEG" initials, showcasing their long history together as a set.
