Description
This is an original WWII U.S. Navy M-1 helmet liner. "OE" is stenciled in black paint on the exterior's original olive drab factory finish, denoting use by a shipboard Operations Electronics Division, which was responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of radar systems, electronic warfare gear, and internal communications equipment on naval vessels. This helmet liner was produced by Capac Manufacturing Company of Capac, Michigan. It features green painted steel A-washers and an OD#3 (khaki) suspension, approximately dating the liner's production from mid-1943 to mid-1944. It comes complete with its original, albeit damaged, green buckled leather chinstrap and a recently installed headband and neckband.
Provenance
Private Collection, Cypress, Texas
Condition Report
This helmet liner is in good, used condition. The suspension is strong and intact; however, the liner's exterior shows signs of wear.
