Description
This is an original WWII USMC camouflage M-1 helmet cover. The cover is devoid of foliage slits in both the crown and the tongues - a characteristic of the third variation of covers produced during the war. Third pattern helmet covers began appearing in wartime photographs on Iwo Jima and Okinawa in early 1945. It features the distinctive double-chain center stitching and zigzag border stitching on the beach side, and it is still in its wartime configuration, with no "Eagle, Globe & Anchor" stampings on either side of the cover. It is displayed here on a fixed loop helmet set (not included) but would also be appropriate for swivel loop helmets.

This helmet cover is in good, well used condition. There are some tears throughout. Cuts for the helmet shell's chinstraps to pass through are present; however, we found that only one side of the cover seems to line up with a chinstrap loop at a time.
